The Healing Sanctuary at O.U.R. Ecovillage was designed with input from the community circle- people who are practitioners of healing arts, facilitators and Ecovillage members. It is located in a quiet area of the property- forest to the North and East, a pond to the South and the connection to the communal area to the West. The intention with this building is to provide work space for practitioners: massage, counseling, etc. There is also a larger space for group sessions like meditation or council. A reception area, tea kitchen, and bathroom serve all spaces. Built entirely by community- in workshops, teaching programs, and with generous support from local businesses- this building is setting the first example at O.U.R. - Stone foundation- primarily dry stack with mortared post supports
- Round wood Post and Beam structure
- Cob Walls on South and partial West and East facing exterior
- Straw Bale infill on North and remaining East and West facing exterior
- Interior walls are cob and/ or framed with light clay infill (woodchips and clay)
- Earthen plasters on all surfaces with finish plasters partially lime/sand
- Earthen floor with in-floor hydronic heat
- In-wall hydronic heat in one treatment room
- Masonry stove in foyer
- Living roof with rainwater collection
- Skylights for maximum daylight
