What are natural plasters?
Natural Plasters are fine finishes for living- and work spaces. Based on ingredients like clay and sand, we can bring natural, non-toxic beauty into our homes with simple, easy to repeat recipes.Around the world people are discovering the superior indoor climate that results from clay plasters. High end products are available in some countries and Natural is a growing trend in interior finishes. Check out Clayworks UK to see examples of professional products.
What is covered in the program?
Learn to develop recipes
Select tools and make your own!
Before we mix a recipe for a room or wall, we will prepare mixes and put samples on the wall. We observe and adjust our recipe if needed.
Once the color and recipe are set we’re ready to get to the application stage.
Pick up a trowel and get into the rhythm of troweling. Learn the stages of plaster by observing and touching.
Add patterns or small decorative pieces for special places.
There are various ways to finish your surface. We will show options and methods for best performance.
Living with natural plasters- like any other material choice- requires occasional maintenance.
What to do and what not to do to kep your plaster beautiful for a long time will be presented.
This is not a classroom event!
We will be working on a small cob house that was built in recent cob workshops and will be ready for this final stage. This gives real experience of application and result on large surfaces.
You’ll be able to take what you’ve learned and transform your own space after this training. You don’t have to have an earthen house to use these recipes. We’ll teach how to prepare surfaces for plaster, and which plaster ingredients to use.
The first weekend will focus on Natural Plasters, and the second weekend on special effects and paints. Both workshops can be taken separately.
9 am start – this allows for our commuting participants to have time to get to the site.
We’ll offer tea/snacks during the morning session.
